Aren't airplanes great? I love them, new ones and old. I love WW2 Era fighter planes especially. there's something awe inspiring about a single-prop fighter tearing by you wide open screaming out in pain under full throttle.

Luckily for me, Wings over Wayne is an excellent airshow held at Seymore Johnson (he-he) Airforce base. I live only about an hour away so I try to make it out whenever possible. Usually Ralph and I make a big day of it and go out with his family. We stake out a good spot in full sun and try to take in the whole event before we broil.

This year was no different, on what was the hottest and muggiest day of the year so far, we set out to stand in a giant parking lot on the airforce bast to watch the aerial acrobatics of our finest men and women in uniform.

Those are people taking shade under the wings of a jet fighter...

Despite the heat, it was a stunning show. The roster even featured the new F-22 Raptor. With a 2000 mile range and one of the greatest weapons arsenals ever fitted to a fighter craft it is not to be trifled with. Talk about impressive, that's one heck of a machine.

The F22 was clearly the star of the show, but the blue angels were definatly a fan favorite. My personal favorite event however is "Tora Tora Tora" That is the WW2 Battle reenactment. Its worth going to Wings over Wayne just for that event alone.
